What is the Amazing Race for Autism?
Social responsibility is everyone’s responsibility. While we are living, playing and working everything we do effects the environment. People need to understand how their actions impact the environment and could potentially be affecting the world forever. As fast as the polar ice caps are melting, desert regions are growing faster, droughts are longer and forest fires are bigger then ever thought possible. Climate change is real and happening all around us.
Brian Jones, from Fredericton, New Brunswick, will be running across the Sahara dessert to raise awareness of the environment and to promote Oscars for Autism. This race will test his physical and mental limits but he doesn’t want to just challenge himself – he wants to challenge us all. This journey is a great opportunity to teach people about the desert region, the environment, climate change and to promote a great cause here in our province, Autism.
The grueling race is a 250km foot race in the sand over 6 days broken into a 35, 43, 37, 37, 100, and 10km stage. With the help of technology Brian will be taking everyone with him via the internet and with the help of his friends at Capital FM will hope to send back some live audio. In addition he will be sending back updates throughout the race, and what it is actually like to run in the desert. He will be carrying all his equipment (25lbs) and running in temperatures that range from 80 – 135 degrees Celsius. Each night he will be camping out under the stars of the Sahara desert, with a few snakes, spider and scorpions as well. Follow his journey and support Oscars for Autism.
